John is providing me an excellent councelling service. It is not complete yet. He has a very professional but very engaging and personal approach. He has taught me (and is teaching me) how to deal with many problems in life and I am very grateful to him for that. Without him my life would have taken a darker path.

I undertook some sessions with John during the year of 2016 when I was dealing with depression/ anxiety issues that were affecting my undergraduate studies. The sessions are held in a reserved room in St Lawrence Community Centre and are usually held in the evenings. There is a room charge for last minute cancellations, which if I remember correctly was around £10 an hour at the time (may have changed). The first session is generally for assessment purposes and is so that he can get to know you as a client. In terms of positives, I would say that the techniques used are quite varied, involving a mixture of CBT and sometimes art therapy. Efforts were taken to know about my family/ personal history and this was remembered and used to guide the sessions. I did feel like some of the sessions were a bit "business like", however, and at one time I was asked if one of my drawings (which I was asked to draw whilst imaging a hypothetical scenario) could be used in a book he was writing. Overall, I did find him to be quite kind in his manner, although on one occasion I was quite upset about a remark regarding my partner (who is 10 years my senior) and about how old he was. In hindsight this was probably a momentary blip but just to be aware and to take things with a pinch of salt!
