I started cycling in March 2021 and became instantly hooked. An incredible new and colourful world was opened up to me.

I had some faint thoughts that I should maybe get a coach as I felt I had the potential to be a decent cyclist and wanted to realise that, so a friend recommended Grant. I told her ā€œI don’t want a coach that’s going to shout at me, or drive me to tears. I’ve enough going on without the stress of that. I want someone who will take me to new levels, and who will be kind and understanding. I want to be pushed...but not over the edge.ā€

From my first Zoom meeting with Grant, I knew he was the man for the job! He’s so softly-spoken and always instills an air of calm. He’s outrageously experienced, knowledgeable, and patient (especially when it came to helping me get to grips with all the technical stuff). Grant’s own cycling experience is inspiring, and is testament to him really knowing his stuff. He can completely relate to any struggles, dips or down days his athletes may have as he’s been there, done that - and knows how to get us out the other side.

I had goals and challenges which Grant took time to research and understand - and he has helped me smash them all. His training style is very ā€˜real’ and accommodating, and his communication is simply wonderful. Varied training sessions, fun rides on the road when we did an event together in Mallorca, what’s app messages with top tips and reading material he thinks I’d enjoy, jokes, support, banter, kudos...Grant is more than just a coach - he’s a great friend.

My cycling has improved enormously under Grant’s watch - I’m a much stronger athlete now, and my new-found confidence in the saddle spurs me on to take part in sportifs and gran fondos all over the world.

I can’t recommend Grant’s coaching service strongly enough, whether you’re an elite athlete, a weekend warrior, or a nervous newbie. He’s the ultimate professional.

I started training with Grant (Cycle for Fitness) back in February 2024. I begun at 177watts of power for my FTP and at 46 Vo2 Max 6 months later my FTP is now at over 250w and my Vo2 Max is now at 60. This has been a fantastic journey I'm loving every minute of it. The whole package from Grant has been second to none, his support and guidance has been fantastic nothing was too much trouble, with regular reviews I could constantly see myself progressing everything was explained in a way I could understand. My training was adjusted constantly to help me improve area's of weakness, things that I was not aware of this has transformed my cycling in every way. I'm enjoying my cycling even more now that I'm fitter and stronger all down to Grant and his training package. I fully recommend Cycle For Fitness.

Grant coached me for around 14 weeks for the France end-to-end ride, which I’ve just finished (15th September 2024). While reasonably fit from club riding, as a 65 year old who hadn’t done such a sustained effort before, I wanted to improve my climbing strength and endurance.

Grant set me up a purpose built programme which I stuck to religiously, including yoga. He was terrific with advice, in standing back to look at metrics, and even recommending easing off when I showed signs of fatigue.

Talking a few times with Grant on Zoom was a real pleasure. He has such a calming way. Before we started the ride, he gave a few tips, including maintaining the yoga while travelling overseas, and especially during the ride itself. That helped hugely.

While tired after 14 days of riding through France for a c.114km average daily, I’m in a much better state than I thought I’d be. And most of that is down to Grant’s programme and his sage advice.

Grant’s advice is terrific, and super value, so please don’t hesitate in using his experience to support your getting ready for long distance rides. You won’t regret it and certainly won’t be disappointed!

I am signed up with Grant at Cycle for Fitness and he has been my cycling coach since September 2020 helping me to prepare to cycle from Lands End to John O'Groats over 14 days in August 2021. I had limited cycling experience before then and wanted some professional input to best prepare me for my challenge

I am very happy with the service and input provided - professional and knowledgeable, but also delivered with humour and a friendly manner, and I can see and feel the massive improvements in my cycling performance over the last 9 months.

The acid test is still to come, but I am confident I shall be rolling out from Lands End in August as well prepared as I could be for the 14 day challenge ahead.

I started using Cycle for Fitness 6 months ago after an initial consultation with Grant about a planned Lands End to John O Groats ride. My cycling regime prior to working with Grant was focussed on trying to do more and more miles and in 2020 I clocked up around 5000 miles. I was rather cynical with the initial training plans that Grant set. It was significantly less miles, each week with a new focus on data such as heart rate and cadence. Three months later after seeing results Grant introduced Power and the results have been astounding. Every week I feel that I am learning how to cycle more efficiently, faster and I now enjoy hills rather than fearing them. I feel that Grant is with me on every ride because he is constantly looking at my data and providing significant support. His communication is excellent, very motivating and he always takes the time to explain my many questions. The bottom line of all this is that after 6 months my speed, power and efficiency have all significantly improved. But more importantly at the age of 54, cycling with Grant's support and guidance has tangibly made me fitter and healthier.

Grant is a very nice guy. I joined cycle for fitness about 4 months ago in order to improve my cycle fitness and technique ready for our Lejog trip next year. I have found him very professional. He has always sorted any queries very quickly
At 70 it is never to late to improve.
Under Grant’s guidance and training plan I have certainly noticed the difference for which I am very grateful. I would certainly recommend Grant to anyone who wants to become a better cyclist.

Doing the Lands End to John O'Groats ride and not that experienced on training strategies.
Grant was clear in what he would provide and how the training would be structured. He always came back when I had a question related to any aspect of the training or IT. My FTP has gone up by over 40+ points. Significant improvement in general fitness too. I would recommend this coaching sessions to anyone. The monthly 1:1 sessions where very useful. Go for it!!!!

We had our first conversation with a personal trainer ever when we contacted Cycling for Fitness and spoke with Grant. We were after training for the epic Lands End-John O’Groats in 2024 and we had a good 5 months ahead of us to do so.

We completed the ride in weather that was unfavourable almost all along but the one big lesson we took away from the training was that you can actually enjoy it. Even when you are facing up a chain of steep hills that keep on coming in poor visibility weather at the end of the day when you thought you’ve had enough. We did enjoy it and when it turned challenging, we knew what to do.

We were experienced London riders and fit people before and we thought we knew what we were doing. Grant however took it upon himself to ā€˜convert’ one of the two riders in our group into upgrading his bicycle spec to a proper road bike, into wearing lycra, gloves, clip-in shoes, the lot. It was a real transformation!

In a very dedicated and patient manner he introduced us to the jargon, the means of measuring performance by the use of monitors and how to stay in control of our own physical performance. It was a real enabler once these tools suddenly started to form part of a comprehensive toolbox that we had and gave us more independence. Grant prepared training regimes for each of us that improved our fitness, strength and stamina, and adapted the training a couple of times to better suit us: he was always one for flexibility and joy as part of the hard work we had to put in. They were other tips too, hydration, the right food & supplements, pain avoidance and all. That was a key achievement that pushed us along on the ride itself with all the distractions it presents such us different ways of riding, a large new group of people, the logistics of moving hotels each day, the unfamiliar roads from tractors to potholes, etc. We are so grateful to the gentle journey Grant provided very patiently at times and always friendly and focussed on whichever of our needs appeared. Grant was always attentive and available. His quiet enthusiasm and soft skills had been very much appreciated. We didn’t bother him much during the epic ride (we did a little though) however we made sure he knew his words were being heard in our minds all along when circumstances would change and then suddenly the words were needed and made a lot of sense. Nothing beats the simple pleasure of riding a bike, this is true and this is by no means a simple thing to do.
