Matt helped me use AI to make a huge task manageabl, quick and productive.
I volunteer at a homeless charity Unity MK. Much of the knowledge and experience of the day to day work was not recorded anywhere and existed only in the memories of the staff and many volunteers. The manager asked me to capture and document all of this vast resource and pull this together in a single document incorporating the few existing protocols. This seemed like an enourmous task and it was difficult to know where to start.
Matt helped me first get a structure for the document by describing what we needed and basic facts about the charity. We made voice recordings of volunteers describing the roles they performed and gave instructions to the different AI tools, which quickly produced clear guidelines and protocols. AI also suggested calling this document a handbook which was much better than the more proscriptive sounding title we had thought of.
The resulting handbook includes a user friendly introduction which sets out the main facts about the charity, clear descriptions of what we do in our day to day work, and with links to all guidelines and protocols ranging from data protection and confidentiality to how the laundry process works at the centre.
Without AI and Matt's assistance in how to use it, this task would have taken weeks of work, drafting and redrafting, and our limited resources are better spent helping vulnerable people face to face.
